What to Do When the Weather Turns in Blackpool

It's raining, it's pouring . . .

We’ve prepared a handy guide to advise you on how to spend your time with us if the weather turns. We’d like to preface this blog by letting you know that despite what you may hear, it doesn’t rain in Blackpool all the time! We often enjoy glorious sunshine and warm days, but it’s good to have a plan in place just in case the heavens open.

The great news is that although Blackpool is renowned as a seaside resort, there’s so much indoors that will enhance your visit, not just pass the time until the rain stops. Here are some of our favourites:

Take the plunge

One of the best ways to counteract miserable weather is to escape to a tropical environment for an hour or two! Sandcastle Waterpark is a tropical 84° year-round, so you never need feel a wintry chill. With endless slides, themed pools and a wave machine, you’ll totally forget about the gloom outdoors.

If you’d like a more relaxing dip, look no further than our fantastic onsite pool, sauna and spa. With low lighting and tranquil surroundings, you’ll feel renewed!

They say if you can’t beat them, join them, so if it’s wet, why not dive in and get some fin time with the creatures of the beautiful, briny sea? SEA LIFE Blackpool is home to over 2,000 aquatic creatures, and during the colder months, the attraction is a peaceful retreat where you can take your time learning about them, taking it all in on the benches scattered around.

Find me in the matinée

There’s no shortage of shows to fill your evenings, but if Blackpool’s weather forecast is showing showers during the afternoon but cheering up for the evening, why not take in a show? Many of the fantastic productions in the town have a matinée showing which give you the rest of the day to really take your time savouring an evening meal, or indeed making the most of the opportunity to have an early night in our comfortable beds!

If you prefer the silver screen to the stage or are seeking an affordable alternative to a West End production, the Regent Cinema Blackpool is a lovingly restored 1920s picture house who screen classic movies, cult favourites and independent film.

Try something new

As a child, did your parents set you up with equipment to get creative with when the weather was bad? Whether you’re visiting as a couple or group of adults, or introducing your children to the magic of Blackpool, you can try your hand at something new and potentially come away from your holiday with a new skill!

Head to the creative environment of Glazey Days Creative Café, a pottery painting studio based in Fleetwood to relax and create beautiful keepsakes. Enjoy a comforting warm drink and a large piece of cake as you choose your pottery from a wide selection. The team specialise in casts, clay workshops and themed parties for both children and adults, so there's something for everyone!

Have a nosey

We want you to love The Imperial Hotel as we do, and we think the best way to do that is to allow you to thoroughly explore and access areas not usually viewable to guests during a heritage tour with afternoon tea on selected dates! In addition to following in the footsteps the famous faces who have stayed with us, we’ll take you below the hotel to view our wonderful Turkish Baths renovation project. Even if there’s no official tour on while you’re here, just ask and one of our heritage ambassadors can give you a sneaky peek. We’ll complete the afternoon by serving a sumptuous afternoon tea in the Palm Court restaurant. You’ll be in such a lovely setting that you won’t mind if the sea looks a little grey!

To book onto the tour, call 01253 754601 or e-mail.

Try your luck

If you haven’t had much luck with the weather, perhaps you’ll do better in a game of blackjack? If you have never been to a casino before, staff at the Genting Casino are always on hand to help, regardless of your level of experience. You may not wish to play any of the games available and choose to spectate instead. That’s absolutely fine! The bar and restaurant have a fantastic range of drinks and food including an à la carte menu and bar snacks. Don’t worry about dressing to the nines on a chilly evening – smart casual is fine.

If you have little ones in tow, they needn’t miss out on the fun. Instead head to beloved Blackpool attraction, Coral Island Blackpool. This pirate-themed entertainment spot will enchant your child from the huge range of games to rides and themed dining. Don’t forget, kids eat free!
